Planning Applications

Council launches new online way to stay informed

The way Sutton Council notifies residents and businesses about planning applications in their street and local area is changing from 1 March 2024.

Under the current system the Council posts notifications to homes in the immediate area of a planning application. This process will cease and the new system will enable residents to register online to receive email notifications of new planning applications within an area of their choosing. This specified area can be:

  • a designated area of a map or

  • a radius around a chosen property (at 50m, 100m, 500m or 1000m)

In addition, all major planning applications will be advertised on the Council’s social media channels.

You can now register for the Council’s online planning notification system. Go to  http://www.sutton.gov.uk/planningnotifications to see how to create a new account and set up the chosen geographical areas for which you wish to receive notifications of planning applications.

Arrangements for those without online access

The Council recognises that not everyone will have access to the internet or choose to communicate in this way. To ensure those residents and businesses still have an opportunity to get involved and contribute to planning decisions, the following will apply:

  • Paper notices will be placed outside all proposed planning application sites in future. The new-style site notices will also include a QR code, so that those with a smartphone can directly access the information on-site and comment if they are registered.

  • Sutton residents and businesses also have the option to view paper copies of planning applications at the Civic Offices by appointment.

Residents with disabilities that may prevent them from using the online consultation system can also write to:

Sutton Council, Civic Offices, St Nicholas Way, Sutton  SM1 1EA

or call the Council’s Contact Centre (020 8770 5000) to discuss their needs.
